Best cam timing

#1 PostAuthor: HarrisTZ » Thu Sep 18, 2008 10:41 am

I currently run a matched set of Norris 0.425 cams at 110 LC on both inlet and exhaust. This kept things very safe. The bike has really nice power (124)and torque figures(82). But as always looking for simple improvements.
Some guys run 105/107 LC's. I was thinking of just dropping to 108's
Can anyone recommend what would be good timing figures...
Thanks in advance

The black art of cam timing, lobe centres, cam heights, overlaps.

Now there would be an interesting article for the club magazine. Or has it been done before?

Steve,
I have done no more than anybody else can do in their own workshop.
List of things done:
ported and flow matched cylinder head (my own work, bit suck and see)
1mm oversize exhaust valves(only) not inlets. To clear the chamber better rather than charge it more. May go up on the inlets this winter.
Norris cam
APE bits like springs/studs/guides
Wiseco 1170 kit 10:25 cr. Not squish checked or deck lowered to improve this
trued welded crank
33mm CR carbs
Boyer ign
They were genuine ponies on the dyno at the rear wheel with clucth slip at 8,000rpm!

Quite a conservative build. Thats why looking for subtle changes to inprove the engine, such as cam timing.
Rgds to all.
D.

Hi D,
What Bike is it and if you are running 1170 what barrells?

I am currently rebuilding my z1a with z1000 barrells with wisco 1075 kit, got v and h pipe and dyna coils/ ignition, was expecting/ hoping around 90 bhp at rear wheel with no head work.

Chaps.... Great topic here...

My Zed has 1075 Wiseco, flowed head, full Dyna 2000 ignition, V&Hance, RFS36 carbs ----- 90bhp at wheel

Gonna check cams this winter & if std :?: (hopefully) will bung in some .395's.

As Mr HarrisTZ, I will be doing this in me cramped garage - suck & see :|

If I can suss out the cam timing  I think I will try 108/108

I assume the first degree figure relates to the inlet :?:
And on the 7th day... Zeds were created!
