project Z1A FINISHES

#1 PostAuthor: bunnysZ » Mon Sep 08, 2008 8:15 pm

project Z1A begins..... bought this 74 z1a off homebart a few months ago, decided to ride it for a few months before I tackled my first ever project.
the colour at the moment is purple/grey in a z1 style complete with purple frame, the idea is to strip it down powdercoat the frame and have it sprayed Z1A brown with orange/white stripes, clean and polish it up
over the winter months and try and put it back together again for next years summer.(so called summer).
was then going to invest in a 4-4 exhaust if I had any money left , but dogsbollox came up with his and I snapped it up ,which is now stored under the bed.
so today took off the seat tank etc backwheel swing arm and stored them away, will carry on this week stripping it down ready for the powdercoater next week

Agreed Mark, a pretty cool bike.

That exhaust was noisy though. I followed Bunny home for at least 150 miles !

Better than Z1000chris`s smokey Joe pipes though.

I must admit that I think that the bike looks fab as is. Why don't you see if anyone wants to swap the paint set before getting it re-sprayed - If I had a suitable bike it would defo appeal to me

Enjoy the project :D

Guyzed. I read 6 months, but you said 6 grand. FCUK !

I really want to do a project but that would be too much for me I reckon.

BunnysZ. I would love to know the budget for your project and wether you can stick to it !

Speaking to others who have set a budget, i think that usually goes out of the window!!
And of course, if you keep a list of what you have spent :kod

restoration

#10 PostAuthor: Hobbo » Tue Sep 09, 2008 5:41 pm

Guys

Spent around 5k restoring my z1a 5 years ago Now in line for 1k refresh this winter . Its the daft little bits that run away with your budget and the parts you think will clean up but look shit when put next to new parts then you change them as well and up goes the budget. Off in the garage now to get her ready for stafford

bike cost £2500
exhaust 720
indicators 75
powder coating 80 (quote)
respray 400 ( wishful thinking)
total £3770
leaves 230 other

looking at spending no more that £4.500

so I guess I can add another 500 for underestimating things

What about the engine Bunny.

As I said I might like to strip / clean mine.

Is yours OK and therefore no need to touch it ?
