They are defo NOT Kawasaki or Suzuki... :!:

I have GSXR on me black Zed...

The spokes are straight, not angled/slanted.
The wheels have a strange sprocket mounting set up, using 6 x allen bolts as location studs with nylon inserts as the cush drive :?:
Also 6 x bolts for disc flange to hub, and 7 x bolts holding disc to flange :!:

The wheels are; rear 160 x 17 & front 110 x 18

They are not the usual Japanese UJM type of kit :?:
And on the 7th day... Zeds were created!

Errrrm, 15mm off-set and 17 teeth :P

I am setting up the RFS38's at present....

They started off with 135 mains & 17.5 pilots with needles (CHY0-99) on 2nd clip down..

Took a bit of starting (still) and ran better with choke...

Wound out thew pilot screws from 1/2 to 1 turn, but not much better.

Tried 145 mains, 9CHY3 needles 3rd clip... started a bit better & not so lumpy.. :??

Gonna check the needle jets (emulsion tubes) coz they may not be as carbs factory set, and also try some 20 pilots tonite.. Blinkin' carbs are a very tight fit

I would check the fuel heights before anything else, unless you've already done it. If so think about raising it a bit.

Rich, cheers mate but set heights before trying 'em

Taffus, I have used Allens for the last few years... great service, very knowledgable & most stuff in stock :!:

http://www.allensperformance.co.uk/index.html

I had a fiddle tonite ( ) and the 20 pilots didn't fit...

Image

They are at the bottom of the picture (3 x sets of 4) the 4 in the middle. If you look carefully they are straight right down to the thread, where as the ones I need are similar to the outside sets, and have a waisted shoulder

Lots of jets & needles to choose from, but never the ones you want

Image

Anyhow, I did have some 32.5 pilots, and they where MUCH better than the 17.5's :P but a bit rich....

The 145 mains where too lean.... so I think 155 mains next & pilots @ 25's will be getting there..... ALLENS

Hello Pigford, sorry I have not picked up on your request earlier, been busy finishing the ignition system on my own bike, Yes I do remember this bike, It was stunning 20 years ago when the original owner built it. Those are CMA wheels, built for us by the old polish guy before he died. The cush drive was a bit crude and used lengths of rubber pipe as the cush drive. Are you bringing this bike or the older Z next weekend ? Romeo

Engine/Carb update...

Phoned "Allens" ( http://www.allensperformance.co.uk/index.html ) yesterday morning for some Jets (4 x 165 mains & 4 X 25 pilots) and they arrived today, within 24 hrs..... TOP SERVICE :P

The bike is a lot better now.... maybe a tad rich :|
I got some 155's ready & waiting so will bung them in tomorrow morning & go for a quick blast....

If OK will take it over to the S W Rally for lunchtime

Made it to the SW Rally & back... but.....

The 25 pilots are in & much better (idles well) and runs better with 165 mains....

Bike goes OK, but still holds back over 3/4 throttle.... It don't 8-stroke, but dies... but comes back on song if backed off... so must be lean, coz with slide open more, too much air... :?:

One extra complication is low compression  Warm engine with throttle wide open :??

Only 80psi on #4 and 100 on others...

Not a surprise coz takes a bit to start, not too smoky tho  No nasty noises either, and I new it had done some miles...

Gonna have to check bores this winter & head.... May do anuvver comp check with oil down bores to see if its rings or valves :?:

Anyone know about over size Wiseco piston sets

The air screw - or should we say fuel screws as they are positioned nearest barrels - are set at 1/2 turn out....
Tried 1/4, 3/4 and 1 turn out, not much effect, but idles not too bad :??
Coz It runs better with 165 mains (a bit large wouldn't you think) low compression/worn bores... all makes sense :?:

What air jets are in the main system? You may have big mains and bigger air jets to richen the lower end of main system
