Carburetor expert needed

After a few miles on my 73 I decided to remove the carbs for a good cleaning and plan on syncro when re-installing. In the photo #4 syncro adj. nut is abnormal then the others. It appears to be original as there is yellow paint on it. Is this correct? also I can open throttle all the way and there is a click/ratchet when open and they stay open .. as you can see in the last photo slides are all the way open and stay open until I manually turn back throttle spring..this cannot be normal but I cannot find anything bent or broke ..I have a set of 29mm smoothbores that might go on the bike and throw these carbies on the shelf..

i have a set like that ,and i think the one with the nut is the setting,and the others have adjustment to sync them all the same.dont know for sure,but thats what i think.hope it helps.

That is absolutely correct for all z1's and early batch z1a's, you shouldn't adjust that one with the nut as its the reference carb to which the other three are set.

I have had a needle move out off position and not line up with the emulsion tube when the carbs are fully opened on the bench and hold the slides open, especialy if the carbs are tilted slightley while on the bench.
When you manualy close the carbs the needle gets forced back into the tube,
When they are stuck open try looking through them at the needles and gently move each needle side to side, they should move slightly (wobble). If one is stuck, it will not wobble.
as the others say dont move the odd looking nut, adjust the other 3.

Well I already unscrewed the odd looking nut,,,so I'm screwed ..Not a real issue as I will be fitting the smoothbores to the Z1. the stock carbies will be cleaned and packed away in storage Thanks

Gregz, it shouldn't be a problem even tho you've mover the nut...

Most carbs have a 'reference' carb that the others must relate to

Its usually the one nearest the actuating cam/lever
