Before I put the Z650 into store one of the problems I used to have was the rear drum break locking up.... not every time but sometimes i would put my foot on the brake and it would send me skidding.
Blokie says the drum is oval but my dad's not convinced. Are there any other reasons why this would happen?
Has anyone else experienced it?
Cheers guys

Check everything the others have listed above and make sure you are happy with it.
Hopefully the drum hasn't gone oval and it is just the cam sticking in the brake plate. On the 900's there is a seal that fits over the cam, [where it pushes through the brake plate], to stop road grime seizing the cam up.
Let us know how you get on.

The only REAL way to be sure if the drum is oval is to take the braking plate out with the shoes n stuff, and remount the wheel back in the swing arm and clamp a DTI (Dial Test Indicator) to something immovable eg the swing arm and use that to check the concentricity of the braking surface of the drum. Obviously all the moving parts of the braking system should be proved to be free as a matter of course.
If yer old man hasn't got a DTI and allied stuff for mounting it, you want to chat up a local engineer. I'd happily help out but I think you might find someone closer to home ... besides I've still gotta perform the impossible and get Tricky Micky's bike ready for the South West rally
You and your betrothed coming? ZRX is perfectly acceptable medium to arrive

cheers guys... I don't think this will be on the table for a little while but I'll pass all the info on to dad and see what we can find.
I think he knows a guy who can skim the drum as the wheel won't fit on his lathe.... but we'll check all the other options first as they sound cheaper and easier!!
Frame is at powder coaters now so hopefully it won't be long before the rebuild!!!
