Its all to do with the amount of magnesium in the casting, jap castings,
irrespective which maker kawasaki, suzuki, etc have high amounts of magnesium which is why they always polish up realy well but corrode quickly
when was the last time you saw old brit bike with white furry casings? thats because they were cast in sand with low amounts of magnesium, but that causes air holes in the casting which can be made worse by aggresive polishing.
Ive been polishing for about 30 years (god is it that long, and my boss says i still aint no good at it) any way ive never been a fan of laquering alloy no matter how well its done its takes a bit of the sheen off.
Bottom line bare alloy if its not looked after will corrode what ive always done is clean it with autosolvol then go back over it with a good quality carbody wax like turtle wax etc and you will slowly build up a protective coat, ever seen a car when its just been waxed and it rains?, the rain drops bead and roll off the car, i polished my Z1000 cases over 2 years ago admitedley i dont ride it when the salt goes down on the road ( got a gs 650 winter hack for that) but after over 2 years they still look just as good, its all about looking after the alloy, mind you this is just my opinion of polished alloy.

Lacquering Polished Alloy?

As Pigford says ' no pain no gain', polishing is the way to go to get the best finish, yes, it is time consuming but worth it. Easy for me to say cos' I only go out in the dry and never in salt. I tried laquering alloy on a Suzuki GT 185 resto some years ago and it lasted no time until it chipped, peeled you name it, ended up stripping and repolishing.
Get the polishing mops out man, yer know it makes sense.
