Rear light bracket
Can anyone tell me the difference between a US and EURO rear lamp bracket. I bought a KZ1000 and have fitted a EURO rear guard. I would assume the EURO bracket lowers the lamp slightly as now my lamp fouls the ducktail.
Chris, I know your problem, however it's not easy to solve. The long rear mudguard take a longer / larger tail light mount. I have modified the longer type to fit on the short mudguard on a Z900, by re-drilling the three holes in the mount. However you can't go the other way ... moding the short to fit the long.
They all have a number usually stamped on the number-plate mount. See if you can find someone with a one and note the number, that will be a start as they all look the same when they are off the bike. The Z1 series have the same tail light mount problem with their long & short rear mudguards.

The bracket on the left is from a Z900-A4 short guard and the right is off a Z1000-A1 long guard.
There is a slightly different profile for each one - I'll post the stamped numbers tomorrow if that will help you in identifying them.
The brackets and guards for the 900-A4 and 1000-A1 are the same part number.

Rear light bracket
Thanks so much all you guys out there in ZED world. A special mention to GARN that supplied pictures of the two types of bracket on his mantlepice. If ever there was a guy more devoted to everything ZED then it is surely the man that has bike bits on display around the house. Unfortunately I only have family pictures / vases of flowers. Oh well, big thanks to you all.
What a fabulous resource this forum is !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
