Okay, I have had a reply from Z power regarding parts cost to repair the motor. I limited the request to parts required specific to repairing the damage caused and not anything due to wear and tear. The bottom line is £181.

That covers gaskets, seals, cam chain, idler and tensioner shaft rubber blocks, guide rollers etc. The only slight problem is that the cam chain tensioner roller is no longer available  . I am awaiting a return from Z Power confirming we are talking the correct part.

Just out of interest the gearbox output shaft is also no longer available - but even if it was still available, I suspect the price would be astronomic

The price above obviously does not include any machining / welding etc to put right damage to castings or any other repairs / replacements that would be prudent on a motor of this age.

I would be uncomfortable with trying to pin the output shaft on him. The only thing to connect this damage with him is that it has a similar MO ie total incompetence. I think that getting a donor motor would be the easiest way around this grief, and it will leave you with lots of spare bitz left over which you could put on the shelf for a rainy day or flog on flea-bay. I'll give Jack a call this weekend as he mentioned a geezer in South Wales that was regularly breaking Z650s.

Thanx for the help Mikey, though I hope that it doesn't come to that, but if the arse hole wants to play hard ball ... we shouldn't disappoint

Can't remember if I mentioned it on here but Shaun took one of his Zeds to him and paid a big bag o loot to him and then Jack had to sort out the mass

Oh Dear - Z Power have confirmed the cam chain tensioner roller is no longer available :(

The part number is 12048-015 - does anyone know any different :?:

I have also asked Z1 Enterprises but not received a reply yet.

Z1 Ent are really helpful, but I have found that sometimes they're a little slow to reply to e-mail so it's worth givin' 'em a bell; I don't think ringing the States is that expensive these days. I have found, however, that if things aren't on their site they rarely have them, but it's still worth giving them a shout.

I have just put the part number and this came up -
http://www.z1enterprises.com/SearchResult.aspx?All=True&KeyWords=12048

The last 3 figures aren't the same but it may be the right part - does it look the same? Was Mikey's text no good? or was that the one Pilget spotted? though I thought that was CMM.

No luck finding a NOS tensioner roller anywhere yet - Z1 Enterprises confirmed it is no longer available.

Although the one pictured certainly looks very similar I'm guessing there must be some difference or the part number would be the same?

Any road up, I am going to have a look at another engine on Thursday evening, so hopefully will come up trumps. It is from a later bike, a CSR custom, but the owner removed the cam cover while I was on the 'phone and confirmed it is not a hy-vo chain, and has points ignition (the engine is black though!). Are there any other differences I need to be aware of between models / years?

I would like to say thanks to everyone who has assisted and provided moral support. That's what makes this a great club - long may it continue :D

I've started on the other areas of the 650 that need attention while sourcing another engine so look out for a thread in the projects section, unless you've already had a belly full of Z650s........

I'll report back when I've looked at the CSR motor.

Andy have sent PM - many thanks for your help.

Just picked up another 650 motor for £30 - again needs work but hopefully not as much as the original motor :!:

I have heard nothing from Bikecare in Bristol. Even though Ralphy dropped in a letter from me (with my contact details included) and spoke to the owner I would have thought they would have been in touch some how. Even just to deny all knowledge

I think we have probably reached a dead end as far as they are concerned......cest la vie

Not at all Ed.

Whilst I left your letter, I left it that the onus was on me to tell him what you wanted from him.

You so far have spent £30 on another lump, you will need a full gasket set at £x's. ...etc

When you have documented what his fuck aweful rebuild has cost you I will take it to him in person again and persuade him that he owes you.

I am 150% sure he will try and chip you, so ensure that you detail everything carefully and I will then defend yours claims and make mention of the very real threat to his time, reputation (if he actually has one) et al if I go squealing to VOSA clenching sworn statements from both Mikey and his mate (which have been offered if need be). I can also site the fuck up he made of Shaun's bike and there is an independent to that debarckle.

Trust me Ed .... it ain't ever 'til that fat burd cums :D

I may be critisized for too long posts , but I'll not let this go without a fight .... I really hate injustice
