Cam cover pipe.
Hi all
Just had the fuel tank off my KZ1000 police, it's a C4 model, and i noticed that on the cam cover at the front of the engine there is a pipe. Although there are two pipe connections on the cam cover, the pipe is only connected at one end. The question is, should the pipe be linking these two connectors or is there something missing. If the pipe does just link these two connectors can someone explain to a beginner the purpose of the pipe.
Many thanks
Paul

This will be for the air recycling system to reduce emissions, by introducing air into the exhaust by the ex valve....
I have a spare set of gubbins for a MKII engine that may be of some use, off a CSR custom jobby, although most people just blank the 2 x cam cover breathers off

Picture (photo's) paint a 1000 words
Last photo is the crankcase breather and usually has a pipe that is connected to the air box to recycle the ..err... crankcase fumes back into the engine via the carbs, which also helps to keep the carb slides lubricated.
The cam take offs should be connected to a system of pipes which I happen to have spare....
PM you address to me & I can post 'em to you, for cost of postage... I'll also include a photocopy of the relevant pagesd from the Clymer manual - if I can find it

Many thanks for the replys, and a PM has been sent.
I presume the crankcase breather will be ok vented to free space as the bike at the moment has pods on the carbs as opposed to the proper air filter box (another part i need to find). I want to try and get the bike back to as standard as i can, so expect lots of dumb questions from me

Atomic Duck.....
As you've got pod filters, fitted, the 'smog' device pipe stuff is no good, coz as jack AVON Calling says, the emmission control stuff does restrict the engine and most people blank off or block the spigots on the cam cover.
The crankcase breather can just vent to atmosphere, no probs.
Also, I've just been out in the garage and can't find the gubbins
Got a feeling I dumped the stuff, or may have given it to Simon G when I sold the bike to him
SORRY

lol
Ok, I am totally thick here but i am willing to learn. So these pipes can upset the running of the bike ?. I ask this because i do get a bit of blowback via the air filters, mainly when cold. The bike had stood for 2 years until i purchased it, the shop got it running and did a MOT but there are a few niggly problems and i need to sort the electrics out. I use the bike daily, but only short runs and just want to do the importent bits first.
be better with a non US cam cover without emission control fitted and maybe carbs re-jetted to improve performance

The reason the pipes are not connected is that the previous owner had the pods fitted and as the std airbox has been removed, the crankcase & cam cover breather system is now redundant.
The carbs need tuning to run with pod filters, as they allow more air flow, and need more fuel to compensate, or the engine will run lean (may cause misfire when cold) and could damage engine.
Usually the main jets need increasing. It'll be wise to check to see what size are fitted. Check in your clymer manual, I think std jets are about 115 so try 130's to start with
You can always do a 'search' on the forum, but usually much easier to post a new thread for advice from someone who's done one of these.
