Dyna 2000 playing up

Ohhhh deary me.....

Replaced ignition switch yesterday..... old one had a loose keyhole

Wheeled bike out for a spin this morning, wouldn't start Tank off & wiggled ignition switch connections (like you do) and after 5 mins

Ignition switch not at fault coz EVERYTHING else is working OK

Off for a blast, parked up at Somerfield's for a drink.... back to bike... wouldn't start No spark

Dyna 2000 red light came on and stayed on Should go out after a minute. Kept switch it on/off, setting advance knob to 'test' mode, strill nought Tank off, more wiggling Ziltch

Eventually called breakdown (hated doing that) and sat and sulked

Tried it again, set to 'test' moce, on/off, and then Started

Bit worried the unit is breaking down...... any one have any ideas

is it worth trying old one back on

Ludders, thats wot I thought initially, but it did do a few bad starts & misfires a few runs before I changed it

One day it cut out just down me road and i twiddled the (old) key and she recovered, and it was that incident that made me get a new one

I have checked all connections, at pickup, connection from pick up to the main BOX, connections to & from coils.

I'm sure its the main BOX of tricks, but hope that now I've set it to the 'test' mode a couple of time, it may have cleared itself.... wishful thinking

Failing that I'll have to contact Dyna & it'll be sent back to USA for a health check

Piggy, I don't know much about it but there is "remote assistance software" on the Dynatek website. You might want to investigate. It might save shipping the box back to the states.

Run a fused switched supply straight from the battery and earth direct back to the battery, this will isolate the ignition from the rest of the elec system for testing.

Silly question but do you have 12v at the ecu, a vamx I did some work on wouldn't spark and it was because there wasn't enough voltage at the unit.

Will investigate further tomorrow, and report findings....

Just went into garage and she is doing same stunt....

When the ignition is switched on the red light should iluminate briefly then go out.... but its staying on and won't fire up

i put a dyna on my z9 and it just wouldnt run properly,went back to points perfect.checked everything first though.

Well, all earths & power in are good

I have had several Dyna S & a 2000 (gixxer) with no probs

This is the main unit playing up, I'm sure. I've cheaked the 'trouble shooting' bits (cheers Pasc) and +12volt in (cheers Rich), but the red light is only supposed to come on when the sensor & trigger align. But it randomly stays on. You can switch power on/off several times & it may work for a bit, or may not

I believe all the Dyna 2000 units are similar for all bikes, just crank trigger assembly is different

Like VDUK, I've been wiring bikes for over 20 years and have seen just about everything.
There was a spate of Dyna 2000 units going 'tits up' for no apparent reason whatsoever.
Just a few months ago, I had two brand new, out of the box Dyna 2000 units literally go up in smoke
When this happens, they also take out the pulsar coils aswell. It took a bit of convincing the poor owner that "it wasn't my fault" I can tell you..... They were both returned to Dyna who 'subtly' replaced them FOC, which have proved OK so far.
I have also heard of many more units going the same way.
I don't care what anyone else says, actual experience of this happening is proof that there is a problem with certain Dyna 2000 units.
That's why I choose the simple Dyna-S system + octane booster.

I'd send it back mate, I have a std point & backplate set-up if you need to borrow one for a while.

I also have a set of points, backplate and cam you can use whilst you get the Dyna sawid. Best you go fer an S very little to go wrong!

had a problem a few weeks back with my dyna ign 1 of the pick ups was stayin on and was firing 1 a 4 all the time replaced it with 1 of mr ferrys and worked great fer sent mine away am still waitin word of outcome

Got Dyna S on me RedZed..... had it for years on me Z1A, no probs...

Just like to dispense with that antiquated 'springy' advance unit

I'll wait and see what i here back from over the Atlantic....
