Cam end rubber bungs
Decided to fix a weep from my cam end rubbers today before i head for hobbos rally all was well until i got to the front left hand side one when i tightend the bolts on the cam cover the rubber started squeezing into the cam box . Try as i might i cant get it to seat correctly is a new rubber the only cure for this ? this is on my a4 any ideas ?

Murph, they are real sod'd those rubber things
I fixed mine in place with some sealent....
I put the goo around the end rubbers and loosely place the cam cover so it didn't start squeezing the bugger out! I left it over night to cure and nipped it up next morning.....
I used Permatex Ultra Black, gasket maker....... from Debbens
I prefer the billet alloy ones anyday

And on the 7th day... Zeds were created!
Mine were all new, and just one was being a pain
The design is poor.... due to the steel insert being on the outer edge, and the fact that it sits too near the external face, it tends to want to squeeze out
I really recommend the billet (APE) items.... would have used 'em meself but coz I was ordering stuff I thought I'd go mostly std for a change on the engine externals

They're not hugely expensive. I would recommend sticking some new'uns in. I bedded mine, after a serious degreasing, with silver RTV. No hints of leaks on my baby

Mine are billet, no problems, wouldn't use anything else...
