Bol d'or

#18 PostAuthor: steve rees » Mon Nov 26, 2007 8:09 pm

Went to the bol in 1984, when it was at Circuit Paul Ricard

fantatsic event, in those days there were loads and loads of Zeds and i recall a few Harris, EGLI and other specials too--maybe it was you????????

the circus was wild

the racing was right on the edge too

if i remember right the mayor of Bandol (old git-- probably in his 70's no offence) was waving the start flag wildly and got himself run over by one of the team suzuki mob (French police) who appeared from the rear of the rest of the starters (Le-mans start of course)--poor bloke must have gone 20 ft into the air and landed with 2 legs broken and other injuries--

he never waved the chequred flag when the race was completed either!!!!!!!

happy days

Steve

Chimay

Went to Chimay event last year. Suggest you drink the red label local, from the Chimay brewery, it makes everything seem like it going really fast.

If only I could understand what "11, 12 et 13 avril - Magny Cours" means - is it a good menu in some French bistro?

Is there an English translation - what's it all about?
Dear Santa, please can I have...

Just got my project gpz400r mot'd.I wonder if it will make it to the Bol d'Or Classic and back?
Only 20 euros for the 3 days including camping.
I'll find out in 3 weeks.
See you there?

Colin, there's some well known names competing and some serious bikes too.
Be interesting to see how the french pair on number 15 get on
Four pipes rule, anything else is second best.

Phil

It's a meeting where there is a good balance between fun and competition. JC Chemarin seems to be the big name in there, but I'm sure the Team Glam guys will be up to prove a point. Bonnie might do well if it keeps running. The yellow peril norton was close 2 years ago. My money would be on the OW31 though as it only has to last 2-two hour stints and not the full 24 hours of the real Bol. Wasnt this entered back in 78 and dominated for 2 hours until it blew up? Served its purpose for its sponsors as french TV only covered the first two hours of the race!!

Now where's my passport............

Colin,
I've had the funding passed for the trip (I think she's just looking foreward to a few days with a clean house). So it's just down to the weather, cos I've got well over a 1000 miles round trip and if pissing down all weekend I won't bother.Other than that as long as the gpz makes it (dodgey cams and cam chain)I'll be there.
I know bugger all about racing but it's one of the best events I've ever been to.You camp where you want, can walk around the pits, laid back French attitude and the sound of those bikes.
I hope we both make it,are you riding down?
