Offset front sprockets

#1 PostAuthor: Jon » Thu Mar 13, 2008 5:05 pm

Wanting to properly space out my chain on the Harris. Just a few mm away from edge of back tyre (150 tyre), and touches occassionally. Not enough to eat through tyre or anything but want to space it accross a bit.

Spacing rear sprocket straightforwards enough. Ive got an idler sprocket setup to avoid chain run issues on swingarm which Im going to space out also. My problem is the front sprocket. Thought Id be able to space that out slightly too, but just not enough thread for the securing nut to be happy with if I do. :??

Seen places like Debbens do offset sprockets. Just wondering if any cheaper factory options like GPZ`s or anything that come with offset sprockets?? :?: If I do go for a Debbens one whats the safe offset before carrier bearings, etc are needed to support shaft?

ZZR1100 is offset,as I think the ZX10 are.
You'll have to run a 530 chain.
Speak to Jeff at Z1 ENTERPRISES for a great $$ price.

Its on a 630 chain at mo. Newish chain and the sprockets new too. 1-off machined for my cma wheels too. Lot of expense to change over. Looking at just an offset sprocket if possible. Cheers for advice tho.

Cheapest Ive found so far is Klasmo at ?60-odd delivered! Scary.

Keef, I think you must mean a non turbo gpz750 sprocket. The turbo sprocket does not have any offset but the non turbo gpz does.

Cheers for the replys guys. Mucho appreciated. In the middle of making spacers up for other bits. I`ll probably go the Z1 Enterprise 630x15x10mm as 10mm clearance is about right for tyre clearance and clearing all the other gubbins too.

Sprockets

Needed one for my Harris, 180 rear tyre on fireblade rim. Went for 630 16 tooth billet front sprocket from Dedden and a much smaller rear sprocket to try and get the revs down and speed up. Works well now and sprocket seems to last well, long quick trip to Sweden and no visable wear as of yet. Bit pricey! I think the cheap option is a GPZ750, not a BIG off set but should be enough, have a 15 tooth somewhere if its wanted

Cheers Gus. Theyre actually the first people I thought of as they made a 1-off rear sprocket to match my CMA wheels no probs. Got my chain from there too to specific length. Looked at theyre website but didnt know what to look for if you know what I mean.

I`ll give em a shout. Really like that company. Can start making up spacers for rear sprocket n idler sprocket setup once know what offset Im getting.

Getting my mate Yantosh to make up 3 new brake discs too. Front ones have a warp n back ones a piss home made effort by myself. Might as well do all 3. Mates rates tho as he`s wanting a lid spraying.

Spoke to B&C this morning. Went through the entire JT catalogue with her over phone. Standard sprocket is JT521 which has overall thickness of 10mm (8mm sprocket / 2 mm boss). Only sprocket with same fitting but dished is JT514 (overall 15mm, 8mm sprocket / 7mm offset) which gives approx 7mm offset. ?17.22 deliverd which I didnt think was hellish considering where I am.

7 mm offset and a 1-2 mm spacer sneaked in behind it should give me at least 12mm chain to tyre clearance. Should be more than enough.

Once that arrives I`ll make up some spacers for the rest to match.

Measured everything up spaced out in relation to new sprocket thats coming. With dished sprocket (7mm offset / 2mm spacer behind also), it gives 12.5mm clearance for a 150 tyre (actual width measures 150 also). Hopefully this info is useful for someone else in same situation.

Somewhat up on the 2-3 mm clearance it had before. Chain will only touch tyre if pushed very hard to deflect the chain enough sideways. Not during normal riding conditions however. Seems comparible to my ninjas chain clearances, etc so should be fine for mot man.

Think of all that time you could have saved if you'd just read what I put  It should clear fine Jon - that's what mine had before going to 530.
