Lockheed M/C seal kit?

Hi,

Sure Ive asked this before and some kind person gave me a web link. Like a t**t I lost it tho! :roll:

Im after a source for a seal kit for a AP Lockheed master cylinder on my Harris. Fed up with the `very` occasional drip leaking and dropping onto my paintwork. :evil:

Theres no markings or reference no.s of any kind stamped on the unit itself so no ideas where to start really. :??

Any ideas or should I just pick up a cheap 2nd hand modern one to stick in its place?? :??

Jon if you look on the under side of the master cylinder where the banjo bolt fits is there is there one or two lines,i'll need to check but that'll tell you the bore size

as Fred says it's the number of lines under the cylinder by the banjo bolt hole. I would say go to the AP site and it'll tell you what is available but they've just redone it and it doesn't seem to be up and running for bikes yet :!:

If it is leaking from the boot check the bore before buying a seals kit as they usually corrode and wipe out the new seals after a bit.

Just checked the cylinder and theres 2 lines scored into cylinder perpendicular to banjo bolt. :??

Yeah leak is around piston end. With a bit of force I can move end of piston a maximum of 1mm side to side, which compares to one on my ninja which has had nex piston assembly and seals, etc. Dont think its too worn. Most likely original seals tbh.

Previous owners didnt seem to give a toss tbh. Some of the bodges Ive found over the last few years were scary! :shock:

Like no fuses, and 20 wires screwed into a knot and selo-taped. :roll:

Chain running directly accross swingarm. :roll:

Cam cap bolts stripped and glued in place, with one end of exhaust cam free to roam. :roll:

Front brakes that did nothing...... literally. :roll:

Cracked top yoke. :roll:

Battery that rubbed on back wheel! :roll:

I could go on for hours. :??

Hell the bodywork was covered in holographic wrapping paper 1" squares glued on in a pretty pattern. :lol:

Was cheap tho. :wink:

Emailed Norman Hyde picture and no. of lines, etc. See what he says about model as several listed on his site.

Looking at about ?30 all in. Could get a modern m/c of a mate/egay for next to nowt, but think I`ll repair the Lockheed one. Its solid, gives a good feel, and I like the look of it. No plastic anywhere, just a big lump of metal. :lol:

Nicer feel to the big 4 pots than my ninja has.

It's the condition of the bore you want to look at. That play is usual, it's the seal that seals not the piston. Brake fluid is hydroscopic and attracts moisture which corrodes the end of the bore causing the seal to leak where it is corroded.

Jon - If you ain't got it sorted yet, pm me as I have just overhauled mine and there are subtle differences.!!!
Complete repair kit is about ?18.

Got offered a brand new remote reservoir master cylinder with reservoir and lever for ?10 delivered. :wink:

Just waiting for mr. postie to bring it. :lol:

Might have a Lockheed mastercylinder going cheap if anyones stuck for one? With polished lever, just requiring seal kit.
