if you do a thread search under engine oil you'll find chapter and verse on options and recommendations.

Hi,
I always used Mobil 1 in my Z1-R. used to give me improved fuel consumption. Used it since I first came across it in the 1990's. I thinks it's prolly overkill to use such a top of the range oil since its changed every 3000 miles. Once I get mine close to getting on the road I'll look into it again I suppose.

Hope that helps.

Regards
H

Mate off mine says semi synthetic is fine, though some people recomend mineral oil. Me mate worked for tas suzuki as bruce ansty's mechanic and last year/this year is john Mcguiness's mechanic. He also races a P & M aircooled kawasaki so i tend to take his advice, I've run all my zeds on semi synthetic with no probs. Mineral is fine though aswell. suppose maybe its down to cost, plenty of others on here will give you advice though.

I run with AMSOIL... Yankee Doodle Dandy stuff... from Debbens
Bl**dy expensive, but its damned good, designed for performance roller bearing bikes, just like a Zed
Complete overkill if not tuned to the utmost, but HEY, peace of mind :D
If the motors not tuned, any old sh*te would be OK as long as you change it frequently
Synthetic CAN make clutches slip, unless specifically made for BIKES.
Also, synthetic can harm ROLLER bearing cranks, coz they make the ball bearings so slippy, they don't ROLL< but slip in the bearings, causing damage/wear
Pay's yer money, make yer choice :!:
Do a search on this site, as mentioned, LOADS of discussion about this :!:
And on the 7th day... Zeds were created!

forgot to mention, obviously it should be a motorcycle oil not a car oil. car oils can make the clutch slip.

10w40--20w50 gtx will work fine, think back to the days they where made and the oils that where around then .the engine was designed to run on that .maybe todays bikes need 'bike oil'just brainwashed x spence to get more cash from you.
my mate in the states has a mk2 z1000 from new has always run 20w50 gtx castrol the engine has never been apart and never had a problem with it ,he is close to 100,000 miles on it now he aims to pull it apart at that stage just to see what it looks like in there .he is an ex drarg racer so he dont hang about on it ,it get some stick .so car oils are just a myth i think .
dragracing, because it takes more than one ball !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
