Z900 carb connector plate

#1 PostAuthor: z2.john » Tue Feb 12, 2008 8:52 am

I'm stripping my '76 Z900 carbs down and notice that according to my parts book, there should be a connector plate (16065-040) fitted across the carb top covers. Mine doesn't have it and I've noticed other carb sets on ebay that don't (ebay 110221081823), while some I've seen do (ebay 130197247527). What's this plate for? I assume it's a brace, but did Kawa add it, was it dropped later, or has a previous owner simply binned it?
Cheers, John

John, good question. I'm pretty sure all Z900 & KZ900's had that connecting plate (chrome plated?). I believe it was simply a strengthening brace for the 26mm carb's.

John, i have one on my UK A4. The Z1000 A1/2 also uses the same part. it is finished in silver.
I agree with you and Garn, that it is a strengtening plate/brace.

Z Powers part book must be wrong then, as it shows and lists the same item, [with same part no].

Z1000 A1 used to have one on 26mm carbs, it was cadnium or clear zinc plated.

Thanks for all the replies. I've come to the conclusion that it doesn't do much anyway.
Just to keep the parts book debate going........ my Z1000-A1 parts book shows the item, but my A2 book doesn't. Reckon KHI decided it was surplus to requirements by then.

You're right about it not doing anything, most of them were probably thrown the first time the carbs were set-up.
