With it being the Z1000 not a Z1A or B I think the most is ?2500.00 to ?2750.00 max. I have yet to see a modified Z1000 go for ?3000.00

Steve, it's very much a buyers market, who wants it and how much they're wanting to pay. To realise the best possible price you have to get it to the largest audience. At the moment ebay is the best place to do that, but it still doesn't mean that anyone will want to pay what the seller will want. That's why Hilton should put it on there, it may not sell, but it should give an idea as to what price he should expect. If it doesn't reach the reserve wait till next spring which is historically a better time to sell.

I agree Rich E bay definatly the place to try. One things for sure Padders even at ?3000 if it fitted what you wanted and its as good as it sounds it would be an absolute bargain to who ever bought it compared to trying to build it yourself!

Steve I agree with you I have built many specials and when it came to sell them I would have got more if I had split them up. It makes no sense when you see a bandit with nothing more than a pipe and some bling fetch more than a carefully built and prepped zed. But its a lottery look at some of Jacks bikes, well put togeather by someone who knows what he's doing yet the last one just made a grand!!

Mad put thats the facts of life. Has the Z1000 Ed placed on the site sold yet for 3k, its a wonderful bike and well worth the money but will it sell for that I don't know.

Ian.

Ian,
Its quite tempting to buy it and swap the motor with mine then sell it again 98 bhp at the rear wheel is about what I am after and doing that could work out a lot cheaper than 1075 wisco, head work cams carbs etc.

Very tempting Steve and if the price was ?2500.00 I would probably have put the cash down and bought it, same for the one Ed's friends selling. But 3k is just too much.

If you look at the prices for s/hand modern bikes you'll see that they're going for low money as everything is bought on finance. How about a brand new pre registered ZX636 for ?5,500 with 3 years interest free credit and the saving on interest makes the bike worth about ?4K.
The bikes that hold their value best appear to be the early Z1's with values dropping slightly with each successive model but i guess that's always been the case.
The old financial proverb about something only being worth what someone will pay for it is true and added to that many people can't get a grand together in cash but can get ?1,000s of credit make's it more difficult to sell privately.

Price variations between various models seem to vary wildly. The Z1,A,B's all seem to fetch a lot more than the Z900 A4, while the A4 fetches more than the Z1000A1&2's, considering each susequent model was ''supposed'' to be an improvement over the previous model it doesn't make sense.
The same with the Z1000J's & Gpz1100's they go for between a half and a third of the price of an ELR which is a very similar bike.

Hi, got my Z1000 2 years ago for just ?2200! Absolute bargain..JMC, Wiseco 1075, new RS36's, V&H, USD forks, billet yokes, GSXR running gear.. etc!!! Only dodgy bit was gearbox... sorted (cheers Ash) for ??200 all in!!!
Just sold me '89 Gixxer Streetfighter on eBay in bits, with knackered gearbox (there's a pattern here!!) for ?3300... and still got o few bits to go! I know its hassle, but only took 2 weeks from start to finish... Would only have got a bit over ?2000 if sold it as was!? Always a good option... especially as Zed bits go for silly money!

Thanks for getting the thread rolling again Steve R, and thanks for good constructive advice from the rest of you guys....really helpful :-)
I was thinking it had to be worth somewhere IRO ?3500 but just wasn't sure, so it seems maybe I wasn't too far off; Like you said, it has to be someone's particular taste to be worth it.
I've got the bike dusted off and clean and will get some pictures taken and find a way of posting them up.
Catch you later....thanks again,
Hilton.

Look forward to the pictures Hilton it sounds like a good bike. I think ?3500.00 would be asking too much though, as pigford says he got his for ?2200.00 with all the extra's. Mad I know but a rough Z1B will fetch more that a nice modded Z1000.

Good luck though Ian.
