shim under bucket

#1 PostAuthor: Dunlop4 » Sat Mar 19, 2016 9:32 pm

The cylinder head off a z1b engine i have is fitted with shim underbucket (like a z650). Why would anyone want to do this?

it was a mod in the late seventy's by performance engine builders to run bigger clearances & tuned engines to prevent the shim being spit out & causing major damage to the cylinder head plus the z650 type shims are much smaller & weigh a a lot less

Does anyone know if the modern bike > 2000, has under bucket shims.
I have had shims fly out when just testing (turning over with kick-start} with high lift cams.

What mods do you have to do to fit under-bucket shims to Z1 series.. Same Bucket?

I'd have thought Uni-trak buckets would have been a straight swap.

APE do 'em too..... http://kzzone.com/cams.html

z650 buckets are a straight swap but you need to swap the top valve retainer for the shim to sit in ggz1100 unitrak will also do the same job. nearly all modern day bikes use under bucket shims but are so much smaller 7-9mm in diameter
