Model identification

#1 PostAuthor: Is Vic There » Tue Jul 28, 2015 10:12 am

Righto, helping a good mate out and have bought a bike off him with the option for him to buy it back at the same price.

I can't think of the model, it's a GPz1100 with fuel injection and twin rear shocks, it's red and looks nice. Think is either an 81 or 82!

What are these like?

Are the original exhaust system matt black and not black chrome?
Also, are the side engine cases satin and not gloss?

I'll post some picture in the morning!

b1 should have satin black engine covers & matt black exhausts b2 has gloss black engine covers & black chrome exhausts b1 instruments are in a big ugly pod sticking up in front of the bars b2 has similar clocks to the z1000 elr & 1100 elr. b1 seat is the same as the early j model

Thanks mate,
It's a B1 because it's got the biggest set of clocks ever!

What were these like back in the day? Bit too old for me, in 1981 I was 12 :P

this will explain it better than i could the b2 was the better model with less problems as it had a self diagnosis built in to the fuel injection ecu

Quite a critical review of the B1 and the J there , they weren't that bad .
I bought a standard B1 in 1985 when i was 20 , it was thrashed ruthlessly everywhere all the time .
Handled ok ish , stopped ok ish , didn't smoke , didn't gulp oil down .
It was my only form of transport besides a DT175 that i used for going to work on .
I altered it with what are now called ' period mods ' , but that's what most of us did then :D

I thought that was a J Related problem and that B1/B2 Etc were all fine.
(could be wrong though)

Here you go some pictures, going round on Saturday to help but all the bits back together and get it up and running, quite happy with it.

Anyone notice anything missing or not right let me know, what mirrors should it have and where can I get some?

apart from the cover for the handlebar clamps / front kawasaki emblem that fixes to the lower steering stem looks to be all there. make sure to put some fuel injection cleaner in the fuel. mirrors are like hens teeth to find

As z1bman has just said above .
The rear shocks and the rectangular mirrors would make it all there .
Full rear mudguard on and all very original , it's a beauty :up

Thanks Lads, its all mine until he gets himself sorted out and then if he wants he can buy it back from me!

Quite like it, so why did they go from FI in 81 back to a carb set up in 83 when my Z1000R was produced? Was it that rubbish?

gpz 1100 air cooled engine has always had fuel injection ever since it was produced. it never had carburettors fitted from the factory. people fitted carbs when they had problems & there weren't enough experienced technicians to diagnose the faults
