SHi*e rocker cover gasket

#1 PostAuthor: phil1r » Fri May 22, 2015 8:25 pm

Hi Guys, anyone help. Not long ago did the valve clearances decided to put a new rocker cover gasket on I purchased it off the Net. when you run the bike up now "Smokes like a 1960's chip shop" from the top of the engine. Edge of the gasket bubbling and weeping all around. This new gasket was barely 1mm thick before fitting, The old original after being fitted still measures 1.8 mm. Anyone know where to get one of these old originals from, this never leaked, Oh and I have torqued it down correctly :!:

Sit the cam cover on the head without the gasket and check for a gap between the gasket faces.
It's common for some covers to sit on the cam cap bolt heads instead of sitting directly on the head and these will not tighten fully on to the thin gaskets.
You just end up clamping the cam cover on to the top of the cam cap bolt heads.
You will still need a thicker gasket but your present leaks may not be the fault of the gasket itself.
If this is the case it's possible to spot face the inside of the cover to give some clearance for the bolt heads and then your thin gasket should be able to do it's job.
