I think you are talking about the 'O' rings round the four outer studs where the oil passes through the head gasket?
If youre using a cometic one piece gasket i believe they have smaller holes at those locations thereby negating the requirement for 'O' rings.
I think the original two piece gaskets had larger holes which allowed the 'O' ring to contact both head and barrels to create a seal!
I have barrels with the counterbores for the 'O' rings and have fitted two cometic head gaskets in very recent times, both of which have leaked there.
I was advised not to fit the 'O' rings but have fitted them previously with no problems.
This time i wished i had fitted them but to be honest their use is very marginal as on the top surface they are against the gasket face with little or no pressure.
Choice is yours but i cant see that they do any harm.
Yes fill the chain tunnel rebate to 1mm or so above surface with sealer and allow to go off before fitting.

Thanks zorded, I have left out the o rings now, when I ordered parts from debbens I couldn't remember what he had said, I have filled the cam chain groove with the sealant they sent pukka gear :D. Oh just seen your bit about letting it go off  will it make much difference?
Thanks Del

I dont think even 'that' silicone sealer will stick to the gasket surface as they are coated with a type of wax or some such that permeates the metal surfaces they contact.
The problem is; that if you left it 1mm high round the tunnel and put the gasket down wet it may creep to the cylinder bores as you torqued it up., but only if you left it high.
Should be fine if it was level because the gasket will bite down on the edge of the rebate.
Similarly i would imagine it would be ok if you didnt torque it up immediately!!
