Right so far you lot have answered / helped with my problems. Next i have just took the tank off and noticed that the little lengths of rubber pipe blanking things on the carbs are fill of holes and perished. Would that of effected the bikes running.
2) :D I take it thats the same tubes i fit the carb balancer.
3) Which carb is the one for the base cylinder
D) which screws do i turn to adjust the carbs

Yes, these are the vaccuum points used to balance the carbs. If leaking the bike will run lean on the effected cylinder/s and possibly misfire.

I would get someone to help you set the carbs up if you not done it before. It will give you confidence to do it on your own in the future.

After making new pipes, replacing valve cover gasket and torquing the top end and exhaust down pipes it runs like a top.
