Advance/retard cam

#1 PostAuthor: sprint » Mon Apr 27, 2015 12:24 pm

Does the advance/retard cam have to go onto the shaft a particular way round. Did not note any markings when I took it off to grease and now not sure if it can be mounted 180 deg out?

get piston 4 at TDC.

The body of the advance/retard mechanism is keyed to the crank.

T 1/4 will need to align with the timing mark.

that way you can't be 180 degrees out.

Thanks for the replies.

Have possibly not explained. The main assy is keyed, so it can only go back in one position.

What I was referring to is the sprung loaded center cam, that the heels of the point press on, which can be removed from the 'bob' weights on the central shaft of the assy.
