A Couple of Questions

#1 PostAuthor: wheelysteve » Thu Apr 16, 2015 8:56 pm

1. Are the copper washers under the head bolts reusable if annealed or do they need to be renewed each time?

2. What do the 6mm bolts in the cylinder head do ? They look a bit weak to actually do anything!

Cheers,

Steve

They are in between the 2 outer head nuts. 6mm X 45mm same as the cam cover bolts.

Steve, always make sure the surface of the copper washer is smooth and without marks which the oil can track. Beware of outside dia undersize washer often available on ebay (not that you can't use them it's just...!!!). Always anneal to cherry red & quench if re-using.
Note: You only need the copper washers on the four outside, I'm pretty sure early Z1's had copper washers under all 12 head nuts.... Now only 4 required.
RegardZ.
