GB's Modded Z900 now on a runaway budget!

I have some 'old stock' PJ1 that I plan to use on the block & head.

I think Buzzard would kill me if I told him I needed the head stripping.

I also have my own reservations about powder coating heads & barrels.

It's a bit late for this project, but I've just discovered Simon (Flying Tiger) now does ceramic coating. If he can cater for 'top ends' I'm not sure, but it's gotta be worth asking.

Spent a couple of hours yesterday refitting the suspension linkage.

When I originally test fitted the exhaust, there was a clearance issue with the linkage pivot bolt & exhaust.



Should be resolved now.

I countersunk one end of my freshly powder coated dog bone.



Not wanting to loose all of the original 12mm bore meant that the head wasn't flush.



A couple of minutes in the trusty Myford and I have this;

All looking spot on GB, always liked your choice of frame colour, seem to remember it or similar on your previous builds too (GPZ1100 Unitrak for one).

You are 'spot on'. I don't do black frames.

Nick @ Griffs has a new shade of grey. This one is slightly lighter than previous projects & I had it finished with a satin clear coat, as opposed to gloss.

I also re-used the bearings that came out of the suspension linkage..........


......... Cos there was no budget left for bearings after splashing out £70 to fit new in the swinger.

More news from Buzzard.

Seat cutting in progress. Seat is covered in black marker pen, silver circle is newly cut 45 degree seat. Stem height needs to be monitored during cutting ops so as not to go to deep. Buzz@buzzworkz.

Started to fit some of the engine cases the other night. Transmission cover fettled with new seals went on without issue.

Before fitting the clutch cover, I removed the clutch centre to fit a needle roller mushroom.

Clutch plates came out looking decidedly shitty.



Then I discovered someone had tried to cut off the centre nut.



I then unwrapped the clutch cover & discovered it had some sort of pitting, probably caused by corrosion.



At that point, the wife walked in & pronounced, with it being such a lovely evening, it would be nice to visit the pub. I didn't need asking twice & decided to leave before I unveiled any more nasties.
