Practise makes perfect! :D
I usually smear with silicone first just to be certain of a good airtight seal.

Al, all I get are pop up adverts !

This starting up on 3 cylinders seem to stop when I put the choke in, could it be sucking air through the choke linkage ?. :)

I get the 365 popups as photobucket have been infiltrated or become more commercially desperate.
Try this.

Its just a short clip to underscore the point made earlier in the thread about fuel levels and it shows that you can; with a bit of windscreen washer tube, open the bowl drain screws when its running to find the dynamic fuel level and to determine whether it falters when you do this. That would highlight a slower than ideal re-fill rate.

If it currently starts on 3 cylinders but with no choke immediately runs on all 4 C's it implies that one of them is getting too much fuel on start-up, no?

Those CV's do like a lot of choke or more correctly the acres' of freezing aluminium of the head like a lot of choke to get them rich enough to start.
A minute on full or half choke is not un-heard of but it depends on so many other factors in the set-up that it is hard to say what is correct.

If you get piss8d off with it, i have my race CV's here in a box not being used at the moment!!!!!!

What I was trying to explain was that it needs choke to start and number 3 does not fire until I put the choke in and rev it a bit, not more that 4000 revs though, I was wondering if the carbs can suck air through the choke linkage :)

video works thanks.

Not the link bar itself it has no impact on mixture except to say in it's operation position.
The four choke plungers have a flat rubber washer for want of a better word bonded to the flat working end which seals them when pressed fully home.

Have you got a good seal on the hose which controls the vacuum tap?
Its attached to one of the vacuum take-offs on the top of one carb, often number 3 body ?
I have also recently had vacuum blanking plugs which have been poorly made which have had splits in them like youre carb to head rubber.

Number 3 on mine is a blank and seems a tight fit, vaccum for tank is number 2, I`ll have the carbs off again and silly cone the rubbers. this only happens from cold ie, left for 24hrs, once run I have left it 1/2hr put choke on half way and she starts instantly on all 4 :)
