starter clutch prob

starter motor has suddenly started spinning the engine over a couple of times then disengaging, making a wizzing noise then a loud clunk, ok on the kick start.
starter motor or starter clutch problem ??????????

Sounds like the 3 x rollers & springs in the rotor unit :|
And on the 7th day... Zeds were created!

make sure the three allen bolts have not worked loose & i would replace them with new bolts & loctite them in

Yep sounds like the starter clutch,all the above have said,was just checking in case was a 650,not so straightforward with them....Paul J

I think it being bored out to 1100cc doesn't help !!!!!!!!

are all springs and roller the same for all 1100 /1000 modles

they are the same for all models make sure the surface on the gear is perfectly round otherwise it will fail again in a short time

the gear is worn. is it worth replacing the clutch holder .that all looks ok but being black it is a job to tell
i see z power do a kit that includs a holder .

Thanks mine is an 1984 z1100r the links show up to 1983 are they all the same on later modles
