In the process of doing a strip and rebuild of my A4. Have the barrels off and have noticed that I can push the No 1 liner in and out by hand?
Is this a common problem with these engines?
Was planing to smear some Loctite bearing around the sleeve and push it in again, is that OK and best thing to do?

Loose cylinder liner

Loose liners are common.
Shouldn't cause too much bother as the liner can't move once the heads bolted on.
You should be able to buy liner bond from a local engine reconditioners or online etc.

Let me tell you of a stupid thing I once did. Fitted new liners. I noticed that they were all protruding about five thou. Not to worry I thought!
The head gasket will effect a better seal when the head is pulled down.
What did I forget.....?
Sure it effected a better seal around the liner tops, however, it did not effect a seal on the four corners of the block.. where the oil comes thru to the head.
Stupid mistake!
