Calipers go where?

#1 PostAuthor: Richard Q » Sat Jan 03, 2015 8:17 pm

So, when I stripped the bike, the speedo cable was cable tied to the brake hose instead of going through the bracket designed for it. So, I googled images for Z900s to get an idea of how it should look.

Most of the images showed the images showed the calipers in front of the forks, so why are mine behind them?

Thanks all - I've only just re-fitted them! :(

I wasn't going to renew the brake pipes Freddy, they are almost new, braded ones. Oh well, out with the credit card again

Cheers

Richard

There is a school of thought that they are more efficient behind the forks!

Main reason is to speed up steering as there is less effect from the mass of the calipers when they're at the rear of the legs, rather than on top :!:
And on the 7th day... Zeds were created!

IMO richard, the solid metal pipes (similar to the link below),look better if the caliper is on the front of the legs. The flexible braided hoses don't seem to sit/fit/look right if on the front. Just my opinion, might be worth a look.

you should have enough length on your braided lines to get them modified to take the female fitting that is required to match up with the metal pipe

female fitting is similar to this

Hmmm.... I'll have to have a ponder on this.

Turn the forks around and spend 60 odd quid on hoses, or leave them where they are?

The other rumour doing the rounds back in the day was that there was less fork dive on heavy braking but I don't know about that, probably had no noticeable affect?

almost every modern day bike has the calliper mounted at the rear i doubt if you would even notice any difference. if your happy with the look & brake performance leave them alone

I think the hoses would reach the other way round

Remember swapping mine round as sson as I got mine back in '77. Had no issues with the hoses.
