Bump.

I've been trying to find the 'best' rattlecan paint for a GPz engine (satin black bits) and about all I've discovered is that Paint manufacturers websites are pants :(

The old favorite PJ1 is apparently no good now

Wurth High Temperature Satin (suggested by Z1bman in this thread) doesn't exist anymore (well I can't find it even with Mr Google's help).

Simoniz don't say what temperature their Tough Black (SIMVHT51B) will stand (I did find an add claiming 150°C so that's no good). I've also found it a little too grey when I've used it in the past.

I've found adds for Simoniz Motorcycle case paint (SIMVHT45C) saying it's satin black and good for 300C but it doesn't exist on www.holtsauto.com (the manufacturers).

Eastwood do a 2K in a can (Item #14791Z) but no temperature info.

VHT do four possibles:

SP903 VHT Black Oxide Case Paint - Satin Black 288°C
SP906 VHT Barrel Spray Paint - Satin Black 288°C
SP139 VHT Engine Enamel - GM Satin Black 288°C
SP739 VHT Caliper Paint - Satin Black 482°C

Does anyone know what to pick from the above?

Not sure what they mean by 'satin gloss' :??

Thanks for the link but I don't think that's High Temperature; just 'normal' paint.

Did you use etch primer undercoat when you sprayed your Z1B engine?
Wondering if that makes the satin finish?

all the engine parts where painted separately i used a flame gun normally used for melting tarmac al the parts where gently heated before & after painting.

this is similar to the torch i used but there are others you could use

I would like to find a place that can bake my external engine parts
instead of the blow torch method, as it's too cold outside (not to mention windy!)
and have no suitable ventilation in my shed.
Thanks for your help though z1bman, you are THE best!

your local powder coaters would probably bake them for you but you will need to get them painted first & the temperature at this time of year is no good for painting unless you have a heated garage /shed /workshop

This is why I asked about a place to get them baked so they can heat the bare parts first, then let me borrow their spray booth? Long shot I know,
but there is a local powdercoaters near where I live, I'll call in on them, see
if they'll agree to a price for me using their booth to do the spraying meself, and them baking the parts.

By the way, just purchased a tin of the Wurth High temp Matt from PM tuning,
delivery is by Fed Ex - 3-4 days service, £6.75 including v.a.t. !!

Total = £20.76.

Will 400ml be enough for 2 coats?
