NEEDLE JETS For 1978/9 -Z1R ( Can you help please ? )

#1 PostAuthor: johny brando » Thu Nov 20, 2014 8:54 pm

Hi guy's . Can any one out there help please :?: . I need to buy a set of 4 NEEDLE JETS (not needles ) for 1978/9 Z1R the ones i have are worn or pattern & oversize either way I'm after new or used genuine if possible and (of course I want to buy/pay for these plus the postage ) Can you help out ? or doe's anyone know where I might be able to get them ???...as here in OZ I'm struggling a bit ! You can get here genuine Mikuni pilot, main jets etc but not the Needle Jets. My one's i think are pattern as there is no I/D number, or Mukuni Logo stamped on em ........Doe's any one have genuine factory manual & know the correct I/D number for Z1R needle Jets as the Clymer manual I have show's them stamped as 0-1 it appears the 28mm Z1R needle jets are different to other z1000 one's.
If you can help it would be great & I'd really appreciate it THANKS
Johny B

Needle jets ....not Float valves

#3 PostAuthor: johny brando » Thu Nov 20, 2014 9:46 pm

z1bman wrote:do you mean these ?

Thanks for that but NO what you show there are Float needle valves & I need Needle valves......these are the Brass tube that the main jets screw directly into. Thanks again though.

Not sure Brando, however,I think the brass part [holder Needle Jet] you are after ("that the main jet screws into") are common to most Mikuni "high-tops" from the 26 mm Z900 and the 28mm Z1000's, with the exception of "Smooth-Bores". They vary the tuning by changing the Main jet, these parts remain unaltered.

As I understand it, these carbs have what they call a needle holder that is a brass tube abut 3 cm long with the main-jet screwed into it. The "needle jet" is a small brass insert that is about .75cm long that takes care of the metering by the movement of the needle up or down in this needle jet.
All four are in vertically alignment..
The needle, the needle jet, the holder and the main jet.

PS... Reiterate.... COULD BE WRONG!

The needle JETS are the small brass insert that are a snug press fit in the venturi floor.
These are held in place by the immulsion tube also know as main jet holder.
Which parts do you need ? as all these are available from NRP Keyster and are accurately made in my experience.
It is the needle jet that wears oval along with the jet needle itself so ideally they should both be replaced as pairs at the same time.

Got to agree, I used nrp and was very pleased. They supplied me complete total rebuild kits for my carbs on my mk2, The kits were keystar and fully comprehensive. Once fitted , carbs balanced, the bike was utterly transformed, job done.! Contact them.

If you need just the needle jets you can get them from Allens Peformance

The Z1R uses the same carbs as the Z1000 Mark 2 - Mikuni VM28SS

The needle jet part no. is 258 O-1 (Allens got me the Geuine Mikuni items from Japan).

http://www.allensperformance.co.uk/

Check you needles for any wear - if they are worn you need to replace the needles / needle jets at the same time.

The correct needle is 5CN 15

Hey thanks for that !!!!!! I feel a like f@#$in idiot now ! When I stripped these carbs down ( for my mate ) I pulled them apart & took the emulsion tube out & no markings on it ! thats why I thought shit ...pattern rubbish ! and also I'm so used to pulling my VM38 mikuni's apart ( from my big single's ) which incorporate the needle jet in them that I never even looked further & obviously had a concentration by-pass at that time too !!
You don't have email contact address fro that mob do you PLEASE ?
Thanks again .
