The first number of the chain designates the chain pitch and represents the distance between each pin in eighths (1/8) of an inch.
630 chain is 3/4" pitch (or think of it as 6/8"), 530 chain is 5/8" pitch - so if you are not sure what size chain you have on your bike, just measure the pin-to-pin distance.
The second two numbers show the width of the roller section of the chain in eighth's of an inch with an assumed decimal point between the numbers. So 630 chain is 3/8" wide and 525 chain is 5/16" wide (2.5 eighths).
520 5/8 inch pitch, 1/4 inch wide
525 5/8 inch pitch, 5/16 inch wide
530 5/8 inch pitch, 3/8 inch wide
630 3/4 inch pitch, 3/8 inch wide

Okey dokey,
Just measured the 630 HD 'O' ring chain fitted to my toast rack....... 25.25mm across the rivets, then measured a 530 HD 'O' ring 25.05mm across the rivets, then measured a not so HD ')' ring chain..... 24.75mm across the rivets.
Obviously some manufacturing differences, but not enough to make any real difference, so for you Geoff, I'll say those three little words my wife just loves to hear.........................................................
I was wrong.

What about using an old rear sprocket cut down ? you will need to have longer bolts ,or just space out with s/steel washers ?
This is a good read

I have some 6mm front sprocket spacers if that helps.

All good stuff thanks for offer of the spacers Zedhead, may need to take you up on that, link is good as its actually the bike i have now,was looking at the 5/8 offset but this brings chain real close to the frame, may be easier to get new 3/8 offset front standard rear sprocket and get slightly narrower rear tyre?

Paul, I might have a 5/8th 530 offset sprocket going spare, not sure if it's 17 or 18t.......
I'll have a look tomorrow for ya.
In my (and a few others) opinion, 19t is optimum, Piggy had a batch made up a while ago, you may find someone on the forum willing to part with one, otherwise its a special order from Talon at around £60-70

Paul,
Normal way forward is to machine down the sprocket carrier. I guess your's may have lost too much to suit the 3/8th offset sprocket.
Best way forward would be to source a new sprocket carrier & machine it to suit your new front sprocket. from what I understand, wheels are Suzuki, so finding a replacement should be easy & cheap. I also know PJ has a lathe that is well capable of doing the job.
Must go, the wife's on me case.
