Valve stem seals: Genuine or Viton?

#1 PostAuthor: Jay1969 » Mon Oct 13, 2014 10:13 am

Thought I'd share what's on my mind today - I wonder which is proven
to be better / last longer, as I'm at the planning stage of rebuilding my Zed engine.

Viton seals last longer and cope with higher temps but for general road use either Genuine , APE or Viton will do the job equally well.

Thanks for the votes guyz, and thank you zed1015 for the advice.
I've decided on Viton seals.
I'll contact our ZedHead-Dave to purchase some from him on his shop website -
www.saisei-europe.com

Now I'm ready to order, I'm rethinking... 'Flourine' valve stem seals.
According to PMC...
High performance stem seal that can be used for street racing both.
● Material adopted Viton® fluorine rubber.
● excellent gasoline resistance and heat resistance, and achieve a long life.
● The Z / J system specially designed to achieve a reliable seal performance.

Ok, so I'll try them, and report back on the longevity of them, whenever that
will be.

Plus, I'll still order from ZedHead-Dave's Saisei-Europe shop, support the club 'n all that :D

Those seals are just normal "Viton" and no different to others.
Fluorine is a std component in the chemical make up of Viton rubber which is a Fluoroelastomer
Viton is also a trade mark of the DuPont rubber company and has become the generic term for that type of rubber.
Much the same as Hoover is now used to describe all vacuum cleaners.

Thanks zed1015, the PMC 'Flourine' (Viton) ones are cheaper than the Kibblewhite Viton ones that Dave sells for much the same quality product?

Most likely all the same quality just different colours and you are probably paying extra just for the name with big brand items.

Had thoses on me ebay watchlist, but decided to buy PMC ones,
I could be wrong, I could be right, but the PMC ones do look nicer
to me, it's more than likely the madness of King George Syndrome
in my DNA?
Most importantly though, I wanted to support saisei-europe shop.
I haven't bought anything from there yet, and the owner is a decent
chap, member of our club, and let's see how many miles the PMC valve stem seals
clock up before they need renewing...
and on that note, let us know how many miles the valve stem seals that
suzukiperformancespares.co.uk sell please Phii, this is interesting!

Ta everyone!

Jay ! Remember Nick Pepper from Dragstalgia this year who races Pips ex Suzuki GS street bike in the same Orient Express colours as the zed ?
He is Suzuki spares and the seals he sells are as good as any.
There shouldn't be any difference in quality or longevity and we have the same ones in the Drag bike , my café racer and my Drouin zed.
Any "Viton" seals if installed correctly should last equally long.

I should have just asked you to write a blueprint list for my engine while I was there!
