have a look at the locating peg in the crank that locates the advance & retard it might have sheared of ? remove no 4 spark plug & turn the engine over on the crank until the piston comes to the top of its stroke then check that the tdc mark on the advancer is in line with the mark on the cover

remove the points back plate undo the bolt that holds the advancer to the crank & remove the advancer + you should see a locating peg sticking out of the end of the crank there is a cutaway in the advancer that locates on to the peg

Ok checked piston at TDC and it aligns with timing marks. Too noisy to check compression tonight and not sure about the thing shearing off !

Ok I had this out last week and put some grease in the advancer and it felt like it located ok. Maybe I should check

if you have done the tdc check & the advancer lines up i wouldn't bother removing the advancer

I hope it wasn't by putting fuel down the plug holes... :roll: This was suggested 6 pages back!

I really don't know exactly what changed but she's running ok now. It was pretty much most of the advise I had on here but didn't put fuel in the plug holes.
It is all back to how it should be and running well. I still think it needs some tuning but is seems ok.
