At long last the MK2 is running how it should be:
Starts on the button from Cold & Hot
Idles nice both on choke from cold & once warmed up.
Pulls nicely from idle.
No hesitation at 2-3000 rpm & no surging on a constant throttle
Pulls like a train up through the rev range.
For those that have followed this thread & offered advice - many thanks.
In case it's of use to anyone else, here is the final set up of the VM28SS carbs:
All jets are genuine Mikuni items
Needle jets #258 O-1
Standard needle clip position 3 with 0.48 mm shim under clip to give an effective position of 3.5
Standard Main Jet #105
Pilot Jet #17.5 (standard is #15)
Carbs balanced very carefully to maximise vacuum
Idle mixtutre set up with colourtune plug to give a bunsen blue flame just as yellow disappears which resulted with pilot air screws at the following turns out:
Cyl 1 - 1&1/4
Cyl 2 - 1
Cyl 3 - 1
Cyl 4 - 1&1/8
Just need to get a few miles on it now - if we get a bit more Summer !!!
