Just fitted Dyna S to my 73 Z1 and cannot get it to fire,on the F mark on both 1+4 and 2+3 I have slotted the back plate to the point if I go any further it would block the points cover fixing screws.The magnet is correct for an early advancer marked 3A and a NOS early advancer is fitted.The modules are right at the end of their adjustment limits.The closest I can get it is to fire on the T mark.

You've probably got the wrong rotor (magnet trigger centre) :??

You can file the holes to get it correct, no big deal :wink:

have you checked the locating peg in the crank which secures the advancer in the correct position?

Try fitting the modules to the rear of the plate sometimes you can get away with that trick,there is a small amount of adjustment on the modules ...

Locating pin on crank correctly located into advancer.
3A advancer fitted which I believe is correct for a 73 Z1 can anyone confirm this.

yes 3a is for the early advancer are you sure the advancer is the correct one? are the heel's of the bob weights worn?

Is the rotor the right way on the advancer? Their is a small magnet on one side that most face left when the 1- 4 side of the advancer is pointing up. Also make sure the rotor is properly engaged.

Static timing should be done with the rotor held fully clockwise(advanced) so that the timing light comes on when the right hand 1-4 mark is in line with the crankcase mark.

Hope this makes sense.

Does it make a difference? Is the timing different in some way. Worn bob weights is plausible.

As my earlier text said a NOS early advancer is fitted.
Thanks to PaulJac, I reversed the mounting plate and all is ok now.
It even runs and advances as it should.

Could someone please tell me where the advance marks are on a early advancer which are meant to be about 1/2 inch to the right of the 'F' mark for 1+4 and 2+3 or do you use the pivot pin as the mark.

Z1b man I've got the magnifying glass on it but cannot see it :shock:

Is it just before the bob weight pivot arm.
I have 2 early advancers and cannot see it on either.
