fuel system/ fuel level checked with a gauge should have been set up on the bench/vice before they where fitted to the bike. i always leave them in the vice for at least a couple of days to make sure the fuel level doesn't creep up & leak from the overflow pipes. is the fuel tap working as it should?

"All pilots set at one and a quarter turns out so all good there."

These are air screws, not pilot jets. When you look at the float level, check the jets are not blocked.

Just a thought...are you using a slave fuel feed or the main tank...if the main tank have you got the filler cap open? If the breather hole in the cap is blocked the fuel can dribble down to the float bowls but can't really keep up with the demands of a running engine (yes, happened to me yonks ago and took hours to solve).

Update
Carbs sorted and fuel levels checked and correct
Valve clearances all set up within tolerances
Compression good now in all 4 cylinders, 1&4 better then 2&3 but not much difference.
Timing checked and looks good and sparking points and plugs

Going to try with petrol cap open

But still not firing

Changed plugs 1 & 4 over but the same

Can smell petrol through plug holes

Urrrrrrghhhhhhhh

What now?

Like Mark(Piggy) says make sure you have a good 12volts Dc at the coils with ign on.......sometimes a good spark in air will not be good enough when in the pot and under compression, you are using fresh fuel, ulnleaded seems to go off rapidly these days, you sure chokes are opening? try blocking air intake partly with a rag to simulate choke...

Is that 12v at the coil or after it?

At the coil lt the common live feed, not the wires that go to points disconnect and test dc to the frame

What a nightmare so checked DC at the coil

R/H side cylinders 2 & 3 =11.12
L/H side cylinders 1 & 4 = 0.32!!!

So I guess the cable has broken down?

Its the same wire Wayne, the 12 volts come from 12 volt feed via kill switch and feeds both coils! the other side oof the coil low tension side goes to your points, when the points open this causes the coil emf to collapse and discharge high tension voltage to the plugs...
