VINS, Frames & MOTs...
So when my project bike's frame was blasted and painted - the VIN on the headstock literally disappeared. All that's left is 1 or 2 characters and they are ineligible.
So, can I have a one of those metal labels stamped with the VIN, engine number etc etc and attached to the headstock or do I need it stamped to the headstock?
And will either of the above pass an MOT?
V5 is present with all matching numbers etc.

'Technically', the tester should be reading the VIN/frame number engraved or stamped on the vehicle to input it on to the computer. They should not be copying it from either the registration document or any stuck on label.
However, if he has no reason to suspect anything dodgy, most will use the previous MOT or registration document.

The problem is, the engine has been changed so the last MOT will show different engine number.
BUT!
The V5 has been updated so the all numbers will match between bike and V5.
I'll order a new plate and have it stamped. They look good:

Ah okay sounds easy. Probably no issue in this country but I ended up in a Spanish Guardia Civil Traffico office last year giving a statement as my scooter (sorry for swearing) had a plate with frame number on and it should have been stamped direct on the frame. It was picked up during ITV (MOT). If I could have replayed that part of my life I would have had number stamped on frame as per original. They don't seem as strict over here though in that respect so I am sure you will be okay. In Spain it is illegal to 'tamper' with VIN in any way it must be carried out by an official body, I never did find out who the official body is and my scooter is still there without an MOT
