im sure when Kawasaki made these z1 s they would of recorded the frame and engine nos together in their records, seems strange if they didnt
then show us the data Neil, im honestly happy to find im wrong on anything, thats how i learn mate.
hang on while I get me coat & passport & fly out to japan & knock on kawasakis door & ask to look in their archives ,cause it isn't on the net don't mean it dosnt exist ,

my point is that to the average very well appointed z1 enthusiast armed with all the knowledge at his fingertips, there is no way of matching an engine number to a paint colour. simple. This is what ive learned over the years, ive never come across such data. thats the knowledge im passing onto Jay. If you think otherwise then its your place to show this data. Im sorry if this is taken as something other that my opinion, im not meaning to upset anyone over it, its just what i understand. but as i say ive been proven wrong many times in life and am happy to learn myself.

Kawasaki have the data as Niel says. If you want a dating letter you won't get it unless the pairing is correct. They also have the colour and the agent who bought a batch, the shipping date and bikes in the batch. Also spec.
I had this information for my H1s and my 72 Z1 through Kawasaki UK who requested it from Japan. If you don't have a pair there is no way to find the missing half and you is doubt you could find the colour of a bike from an engine number unless you had someone on the inside.

I can't believe you have been offered an engine within a certain number sequence, I asked for any bloody engine to fit my Harris frame in any condition and ended up with one that I'm still waiting for

Why Not !
Ahem, Mick you said engine numbers had no correlation to colour of
factory paintset at time of dispatch (in so many words), yet
malmojoe said they had, if you could find out the matching frame number
to that bike when it was originally dispatched; to quote malmojoe, "if you knew someone on the inside" (Kawasaki Japan presumably).
So, I believe Neil deserves some credit for his statement about "knocking
on doors in Japan".
In my opinion Mick, you only knew half the answer.

im tired of this but here goes, Jay, here are the words from malmojoe
"and you is doubt you could find the colour of a bike from an engine number unless you had someone on the inside."
the point ive made is that you simply cannot tell what colour the bike was off production line from an engine number, its a fact. all this talk of "someone on the inside " is just another way of saying it cant be done, not for you or I or any of the other thousands of zed enthusiasts. the information simply isnt available, cant be found, not there, unobtainable.
your question was " can we find out what colour a bike was off the production line from the engine number"
NO is the answer. i dont mind admitting when im wrong but im right here, a great big blue peter badge to me thanks, but keep it i dont need it,over and out.
