Both of my newly built Z1 engines are coming towards 500miles and the plugs are showing black soot on the base of the plug and more white than beige on the electrodes what does this mean lean?
Carbs on both bikes are well balanced.
A little slow to respond to the throttle when pulling away and I am tending to have to keep the revs going than rather stall.
Has anyone one got a write up on setting up with a colour tune.
The bikes are due their MOT's soon and will be going into Alf's in Worthing would I be better to get them to set them up?

Electrode colour is heat range/cylinder temps and base ring is mixture.
Unless you are doing 1/4, 1/2 and full throttle plug chops then your plugs are only showing you are slightly rich at idle and maybe do with a cooler plug but until the mix is right you won't know if the plug is ok or not.
You want slightly sooty but not fluffy deposits to be on the safe side.
