Oil

#1 PostAuthor: Wayne1960 » Thu Apr 24, 2014 9:00 am

After completing the engine i filled up with new oil and after 48hrs noticed a small oil mark on the garage floor.
I looked and noticed there was a very small showing of oil at the front of the engine on the sump gasket the eventual runs down and drops on the floor.
I pinched the sump bolts up a little more and it looks like it has stopped.

should i be worried? everywhere else looks sound.
Just purchased a 1976 UK Z900 A4 for renovation. Wish me luck.

When you say completing have you rebuilt it? Wait until the engine has gone through a few heat cycles, can't see it being a major problem, just monitor it. :D

Yes completely rebuilt. I guess the gaskets will expand and contract when its hot and cold so ill do as you say and keep an eye on it.

if it is leaking at the gasket joint & you haven't run the engine yet it will probably be worse when you run the engine. pattern gaskets are not as good as the genuine. did you replace the o ring on the sump plug ?

The J sump has a hole at the front that you put a bolt into to pull the sump plate.
Dont know about the early engines though???

Think I stopped it temporarily. Got the wife's hair dryer on the gasket last night and no show this morning.
Going to have to change the oil after run in so do it then.

You should be worried, if........

The tax man is looking for you.
If you were flashed by a speed camera in the last few days.
If you work away from home and Big Leeroy has been seen hanging about your house.
If you've just put petrol into your new diesel car.
If you struggle to sustain an erection for more than 5 hours.

In fact the list is quite endless really.
Jimmock. :wnkr
