so...with the wired George mod on and another switched live run down from the headlight to the 4 plug miniloom under the sidepanel took it out for a spin to warm it up, and I see this across the battery...
13v/lights on@tickover then @4000rpm with lights still on around 15v, better but not what I would expect

mark,

out of interest check the 3 yellow wires individually. you should be getting no more than 6v off each of them.

failing that if you want to try another regulator let me know and you can try the one off my Z1R

Following z1bmans suggestions and that flow chart I attacked the loom with gusto, cleaning every block connector, cleaned the earth connections up, it seems OK now 14.7v at 5000, test ride when I can straighten up again,

thanks for the offer chris, very kind, I was starting to run out of ideas.

I can really recommend the Wired George, starting is much better.

Im reasonably competent wiv electrics but this document is a mine of useful information and pointed me to a good result this weekend with an itinerant Z1R that would give no more than 12.5v with full load , do yourself a favour guys and download it :up
