Bellmouths with gauze or gauze fitments for existing intake

#1 PostAuthor: KWACKERZ1 » Tue Mar 25, 2014 11:51 am

Anybody on here fitted some bellmouths with gauze onto 33mm smoothbores as I have a set with no bellmouths but no stone protection on the intakes they are just open,
Which I don really like the idea of.

The actual carb diameter at the back is 54.5 mm so either some bellmouths with gauze (like hitchcocks sell but bigger) or somewhere that can provide the gauze and a fixing arrangement would be useful.

Any suggestions?

My gpz1100 motor has lawson carbs on it ,and they measure 55mm ,i recently purchased some APE K&N style filters ,not the conical ones ,the ones that have a bigger bottom part ? if you know what i mean !! £50 for the set (4) ,they are very good quality and are not to restricting for the motor (no foam use dry) ,i know you have smooth bores ,but they might work ?
i got them from suzukiperformancespares.co.uk through ebay ....

Thanks all,

GUS those conical ones are a bit short but the right idea what I want is those like PIGFORDS but with gauze on the back. I actually have the trumpets just need protection

Mark do yours have gauze or are they straight through?

Snotie thanks for that I dont want to bugger about with jetting which I might have to do with fitting filters I just want some protection form debris entering the engine.

Guyz,

On a "serious" note...

How do you know the length to make the bellmouths?

The length of them changes the engine outputs considerably.

Yes Steve I found those on ebay and could'nt believe the price.

Jimmock your right 33's like smooth air so longer bellmouths tend to work better
I just use what Ive got and set the carbs up accordingly, would be nice to have the luxury of a dyno and time to try different lengths to see their affect.

I have another set of bellmouths that have a rubber sleeve that holds the gauze in place and was looking for something similiar but cannot find anything out there in www land.

I bought a set of these for my KEIHIN CRS carbs - but they probably are not large enough.
