Yes buddy....so, if I'm running a Z1000 A1 fuel tap (twin takeoff supplying the two t-piece feeds) what happens to the vacuum take off....I have blanked this off but I am still getting running problems on No.3 cylinder. With this blanked off and, presuming there will be a hole in the left wall of the venture, will this cause a running problem?. As I mentioned yesterday I have found a `standard` No.3 body which I am in the process of cleaning up and fitting anyway...but was interested to see if my running problems could be caused by this particular carb or whether it's just a coincidence that it happens to be linked with the cylinder that has the running issues. Cheers.

Paul,
Probably teaching you to suck eggs, but
Have you swapped over the plug leads/plugs between one and three and the tried it, just to eliminate the plug lead and cap?

To be honest I have never had a problem just blocking the vacumn tap pipe on number 3 up (as when you change to a pingle tap they are not used any more so )
If you're carbs are bits and pieces of different models check everything to the manual including the slide cutaway's in case you are running gs carbs instead of zed ones they are different but check needles jet sizes and everything as its more likely to be that than the bodies.
However if the carbs were left with old fuel in them you may have a blocked hole in the body, Ultrasonic clean but often a spray of carb cleaner down all orifices will detect (or clear a blockage)

Hi KwackerZ1...yes, I have swapped plugs and leads to eliminate that issue. I reckon, as you say, it's more a case of a blockage within that carb....not being familiar with the vac set up on a bank of carbs (my Z900 has duel feed, two breathers) that this was confusing me....and thought it may be the cause of my running issues.
If it's too loud....too bad.

Blanking off the vac port as you have is all that is needed.
The hole leading to the venturi won't cause any running issues as it now goes nowhere.
Sounds like a simple case of a partial blockage in the pilot circuit.
On your carbs (which have the fuel mixture screw underneath) there are two pilot outlets on the venturi (carb bore) floor.
One sits within the area of the slide bore and the other about 6mm away on the engine side of the slide .
The one within the slide bore is straight through, it's directly above the pilot jet and can easily be viewed by eye once the pilot jet is removed to see if it's clear.
The other is metered by the mixture screw and it's passageway comes off the straight through one at an angle.
This is the one that is probably blocked and any adjustment of the mixture screw will make no difference.
It's a bit tricky to get this one clear but a bit of work with the air line and solvent usually does the trick.
