Calipers and Brake line

The pipe MUST be tight against the bottom of the threaded hole in the caliper.
Or it will NOT seal.
The seal is the taper of the pipe against the taper in the hole!!
If it turns it aint tight, if it aint tight, it aint gonna seal.

OK all. i removed the pipe last night and took a detailed look inside the hole. The thread appears to go all the way down the bottom of the hole. i can clearly see the small hole in the middle which i guess corresponds with the pipe. There doesn't appear to be anything in the hole or protruding from it. its all nice and clear but slightly stained.
I'm at a loss only to say that looking back on the pictures i took before i stripped the pipe it would appear the hose was connected directly into the caliper and not via the metal pipe as it should.
Be really disappointing to have to result to that!

Just purchased a 1976 UK Z900 A4 for renovation. Wish me luck.

just spoke to Dave from ZPower and he believes the bottom of the hole should be raised and thinks it is some kind of brass ball with a hole. I'm just wandering if these could have come out when i had the brake calipers cleaned.
Anyone else had the same problem?

Sorry Jim
Probably didn't explain myself very well.
This is what Dave said
"Had a guy ring yesterday with the same problem but it turned out the previous owner had fitted Goodridge hoses direct to the calipers using banjo bolts which when tightened up had crushed that bronze convex thing inside the caliper, BUT yours look intact???
I have just tried two pipes in new calipers here at work and they fit no problem"
So my question was what is the bronze convex thing and can it simply fall out?
i'm at a loss

Ok i'm up on what i should be looking for but all i can see in the hole is the thread at the side and the bottom and a hole in the middle. That's it.
Is this nipple thing something that can fall out? can it be replaced.
