Well put a new battery on my Z550 project today, all the bits work, lights, break light, indicators etc, engine turns over nicely, but no spark at the plugs, any of them, it has the electronic pick ups, ignitor etc, any pointers to check out, what is the most likely problem? ta :D

Have you got 12volts at the coils as a starting point?

Will check the volts at the coils in the morning, the kill switch stops the engine turning when its off, assume the the power flows when its on, the engine does turn, will get back, cheers lads.

Swap (black with green) input to low voltage side of coils and try!

Now then, I have checked all connections, I have replaced most, all seem ok, there is no side stand switch, its and american import, cheers JB, I do have 11.4 volts at the coils, I have put the ohm tester on the pickups, 450 reading on both, engine turns fine, all other electrics working, just no bloody spark :x could it be either the regulator or the ingniter?

Check the wiring diagram, sounds like a lockout switch somewhere.
What we got here, is failure to comunicate.

Pulling my hair out, cant find any other kill switch, traced all the wires, all seem good, does anyone know the clearance between the rotor and the pick up on the ignition? could it be that I wonder?

Right, I have done the check for voltage at the igniter, there are 4 wires. all show voltage except the black/yellow which is the earth, so power going in and out! the dowel pin is ok I only put it together recently. Could it be the battery, it is brand new yuasa, not had a trickle charge since filling, but showing 12 volts.

you can check the pulse with a multi meter but it is better to use a logic probe. the wires from the pick up coils should have a fluctuating voltage as the engine is spun over if you have a steady / constant voltage the pick up coils will be bad. the same applies to the output wires on the cdi

logic probe
