Cams

#1 PostAuthor: FOZ1A » Mon Dec 09, 2013 3:04 pm

Looking for advice on which cams to buy, dont want anything too lumpy, say around 390 lift. Kent cams do a set for £400, is there anything else out there? Alternatively has anyone got any they want to sell?

I have a brand new set of brand new Andrews 3X PSP-3X cams from Pitstop Performance in the US. Here's what Joe had to say about them:

"I have installed this camshaft in many road racing bikes and everyone loves it.

It has .418 inch lift with 282 degrees of duration at .030 inch lift.

It does not require the use of shim under bucket tappets."

Having bought and shipped them (inc paid import charges etc) we cant use them as the head on my Z900 has been too heavily modified (change of base circle, valve length etc).

You can have them for £350 inc post assuming you UK mainland based. I have all fitting and timing instructions, special install grease etc.

Only thing to add would be that you will have to 'let' the cam bucket bores out and relieve the inside of the cam cover for clearance.
Anything more than .400" gives a clash condition.
I had .425" lift cams in my Manzano head which had the same problem.
Easliy sorted though but just thought it might be worth adding to if you don't mind Martin.

Happy to be educated but one of the stipulation I had when I bought them was bolt straight in no engineering. Joe told me these were ideal and was as "lumpy" as he would recommend for a road bike before we were in to engineering and change to shim under bucket. Pitstop Performance website has all the technical data.

Turns out my head is so mucked about with we had to put the cams it came with back in. According to Chris at Grumpy1260 who is setting it up for me it does nothing under 5000rpm and then takes off like a scalded cat.
