1984 GPZ750 Carb Set UP

#1 PostAuthor: Class1 » Thu Sep 26, 2013 11:27 am

Hi All.
Recently acquired this machine. It has K&N pods and a Lazer pipe fitted. The prev. owner said it has been jetted but needed tinkering. It was running errattically in places, so I reset the fuel screws and found that they had been set at 4+ turns, one was even at 5+. This makes me doubt that it had been jetted up, but would cruise nicely until number 1 pot cut out completely.
I took the carbs off and cleaned them up (I'm surprised it ran at all), it now starts/idles nicely, accelerates beautifully, but has a consistant misfire when cruising/holding speed. It's not an erratic misfire, it's uniform so it's rideable, but annoying and as soon as you start to power up it instantly smooths out. I've taken the fuel screws out to 3.5 but don't want to take them out any further.
Should I scrap the KN pods and refit the orig airbox or do I still need to jet up OR....am I stuck with it as I read in another forum somewhere :?:

Personally with CV carbs, I would fit the std airbox setup.

To help you, here's a copy of the genuine workshop manual for the GPz750.
