GPZ750 Race bike, advice on engine specs and bits needed.

#1 PostAuthor: KWACKERZ1 » Mon Aug 26, 2013 10:38 am

Hi
A mate has just bought a KZ700 (American GPZ 750r1 sleeved down to 700cc )and is going to build a Classic race- track bike from it and I just thought I would ask on here if anyone has much experience of the GPZ motors and the best cams carbs etc and to confirm a couple of points,

I think that the KZ700 and Gpz 750r1 engines are the same apart from the bore, can anybody confirm the differences,

Are the valve sizes the same?

Also which GPZ cams offer the best performance ?
GPZ750R1 or as we suspect the 750 A1 (UNITRACK) where the Cams are better.
Anybody Know the lift of the cams in the unitrack?

Also going to need a 4-1 what else may fit on these?

Plus a decent swinging arm is needed? What have people fitted to these?

Initial thoughts are stick an 810cc kit in it 26mm z1000 carbs some cams and a flow job and a decent pipe.

If anyone has any good cheap bits kicking around let me know, things that we are definitely going to need are:
Bikini handlebar fairing,
Cams
810 kit
4-1
Swing arm

If you have any bits or advice its all much appreciated as I admit I don't have that much experience on the 750 gpz ranges.
Cheers
Phil

Used to play with the 6 and 750 motors years ago and the usual tricks apply as used on the 900/1000's.
Unitrack stuff ,cams, barrels, head etc is the way to go for budget upgrades along with carbs and 4-1 pipe.
If there's a couple of quid to spend then an 810 kit and some port work.
How long is a piece of string though.
As you know, getting the weight off ,bracing the frame and getting the handling sorted to hold the corner speed will make up for some lack of horses.
