Clutch advice please

#1 PostAuthor: gary557 » Sat Aug 10, 2013 11:34 am

Gents, I have a few issues with my z1b, I am sure they are clutch related.

I have been resolving other issues for most of this year, since I got the bike .ie oil leaks, carb cleaning and setting up and rust in fuel tank.

1. I went out a couple of weeks ago and when the bike had done a few miles and got warm properly it started "juddering".

2. I have dropped the oil and looked at the clutch friction plates and although they are not worn out [according to Clymer manual]. I found one that was cracked. Would this be the cause of the "juddering" ?
All the steel plates are ok.

3. Would you recommend replacing ALL the friction plates.

4. What oil should I use. I was/am running the oil used by the PO.

Sorry, as I guess these issues have been asked about many times.

Thank you Gary

The cracked plate is the probable cause so, Yes! fit new plates.
Soak them in engine oil overnight before fitting.
If the plain plates are not warped they can be re-used indefinitely, a light etching in a blasting cabinet is usually beneficial if they have visible surface wear.
